David Borenstein, born in Ligniza, Poland, a medieval city with a castle and old churches, his original inspiration to start drawing at age six. At fourteen, David starting painting in oil. In 1970, he graduated from Newark School of Fine Arts, New Jersey, U.S.A. In 1971, David went on his search looking for the Renaissance beginning in Florence, Italy.
He then spent the summer drawing potraits outside the Uffizi Museum. In 1972, he continued his studies at the Vienna Acadamy, Austria, and from 1976 to 1982, at The Art Student League of New York, U.S.A. with Frank Mason and David Leffel. In 1999, he had the oppertunity to study with Odd Nerdrum, in Oslo, Norway, and in 2000, at The Florence Acadamy of Art. From 1978 to 2009, David had copied over 90 oil paintings directly from the Master's works in the Metropolitan Museum New York, the National Gallery Washington D.C., and the National Gallery of London, in his search of the techniques of the Old Masters.
This journey enabled him to rediscover from the foundation to finish the techniques of the Great Masters. His paintings are in many prominant collections and he has had many one-man shows all over the world. He received first prize for
the Northwest Competition, U.S.A.
David has been teaching workshops in his studio in Taos, New Mexico, U.S.A. and in the last four years, travelling to India, Nepal and Thailand for new inspiration, painting a la prima gypsies, holy men, and sunsets. At this time, his vision is to share his knowledge and experience with others, and pass on the secrets of the Old Masters.. |
